Why choose counselling?

Life presents us with challenges and choices that can sometimes be overwhelming.

These challenges can take various forms, such as bereavement, illness, work, relationships, transitions, and parenting, among others.

At times, there may be little indication of why we feel out of sorts.

Counselling offers a safe space to discuss your thoughts and feelings, enabling you to address and work through the issues you may be facing.

Speaking with someone outside your personal circle allows for open communication without the fear of judgment.

Whether you have prior experience or are seeking counselling for the first time I appreciate it can feel daunting.

I offer a warm, friendly online environment where you can start your counselling journey at your own pace.

What I can help with...

Anxiety

Anxiety is a common experience for many of us and can serve as a protective mechanism. However, when anxiety exceeds its protective purpose, it can interfere with our daily lives. It is frequently through discussing our anxieties that we begin to truly understand them.

Through therapy, individuals can learn to identify negative thought patterns and replace them with more constructive ways of thinking.

Furthermore, the supportive relationship established with a therapist can foster a sense of safety, allowing individuals to express their fears and anxieties without judgment.

Over time, therapy can empower individuals to manage their anxiety more effectively, leading to improved emotional well-being and a greater quality of life.

Depression

Depression is a term often used to describe feelings of sadness. However, it encompasses more than just feeling down or blue. Depression can be likened to a heavy grey rain cloud casting a pall over the vibrant colours of life, affecting one's mood and perception.

Through sessions with a trained professional, individuals can explore their thoughts and feelings in a safe environment, gaining insights that may be difficult to uncover on their own.

The supportive relationship developed in therapy can also provide a sense of connection, reducing feelings of isolation often associated with depression. Ultimately, therapy empowers individuals to develop coping strategies, enhances their understanding of the condition, and fosters a path towards recovery and resilience.

Self-esteem

Self-esteem starts to form in early infancy. It's connected to the way we value and see ourselves. Low self-esteem can impact our everyday activities and is strongly associated with our mental well-being.

Therapy can play a crucial role in improving self-esteem by providing a supportive and non-judgemental space for individuals to explore their thoughts and feelings.

Supporting clients to identify negative patterns of thinking that undermine their self-worth and learn healthier ways of self-perception.

Ultimately, therapy can empower individuals to embrace their uniqueness and cultivate lasting self-esteem.

Parenting

Parenting encompasses a spectrum of experiences, including highs, lows, and unexpected changes. Just when you think you've navigated through one challenge, another transition emerges. As we step into parenthood, our own childhood experiences subconsciously resurface.

Therapy offers parents a safe space to explore their feelings, address concerns, and develop strategies for effective communication.

It can help parents understand their own emotional reactions and improve their relationships with their children, fostering a healthier family dynamic.

Therapy not only benefits parents but can also promote emotional well-being within the entire family unit.

Bereavement

Losing someone you care about is really tough and can bring on an array of feelings. Therapy can be very helpful when experiencing bereavement

Having someone to listen with kindness can offer ways to cope with your feelings.

In therapy, you have the chance to share your emotions, think about memories, and start working through your grief in a safe space.

It allows you to explore what you're feeling and find new ways to deal with how the loss has left you feeling.

With time and support, therapy can help you feel more at peace and accept what has happened, leading you towards feeling better emotionally.

Stress

Stress is something many of us experience in our day to day lives. Traffic, deadlines, commitments and responsibilities are common sources.

When stress builds up it can feel unmanageable and can have an impact on both our physical and mental well-being.

Therapy can play a pivotal role in managing and alleviating stress, providing individuals with a safe space to explore their emotions and develop coping strategies.

Through talking therapy, clients can gain insights into the underlying causes of their stress, learn effective relaxation techniques, and build resilience.

Ultimately, therapy offers valuable tools and support, enabling individuals to navigate stress more effectively and improve their overall well-being.

Trauma

Trauma refers to the emotional response that arises from experiencing stressful, frightening, or distressing events.

It can result from a single occurrence or a series of events over time.

It's important to understand that individuals may react differently to traumatic events.

Therapy plays a crucial role in helping individuals navigate the complex and often overwhelming emotions that arise from trauma.

Through a safe and confidential environment, therapists provide support that encourages individuals to explore their feelings and experiences at their own pace.

Additionally, engaging in therapy fosters a sense of empowerment, allowing individuals to reclaim their narratives and build resilience. Ultimately, therapy provides a pathway towards healing, promoting emotional well-being and a renewed sense of hope for the future.

Emotions

In therapy, understanding our emotions is really important for personal growth and healing.

Emotions act as helpful signals, guiding us through our experiences and how we interact with others, but they can sometimes be confusing.

Therapy can provide support in discovering where their emotions come from, looking at how past experiences and relationships affect how they feel today. By recognising the link between emotions and behaviour, clients can start to understand why they react in certain ways

. This can help them develop healthier ways to cope and manage their emotions better. Gaining this insight not only promotes self-acceptance but also gives individuals the power to make thoughtful choices, leading to a more balanced and satisfying life.

A little bit about me!

I started my journey to become a counsellor in 2018.

My training allowed me the opportunity to obtain a volunteer placement at a primary school where I provided counselling to parents and staff.

At present I volunteer with a charity, providing 1-1 online counselling sessions, as well as my own private practice.

My qualifications include:

  • Diploma in Therapeutic counselling
  • Diploma in CBT
  • Level 3 in Counselling studies
  • Level 2 in Counselling skills
  • Online counselling
  • GNVQ level 3 in childcare
  • Level 2 British sign language
  • Level 1 British sign language
  • Level 2 in understanding Autism

My occupation prior to this was in Early years where I worked for over 10 years.

It provided me with the experience in not only caring for young children, but in supporting families.

I have both a professional and personal experience of supporting children and families with disabilities and special educational needs and I understand the challenges many people face.

I believe my life experiences have enhanced my skills and abilities in becoming a warm, welcoming, empathic therapist.

Reviews

"I worked with Elena for approximately 6 months.

I was extremely apprehensive on my first session and was in two minds whether this therapy was for me.
How wrong I was.
Immediately Elena put me totally at ease, she was so gentle and with the most calming voice .

She carefully explained how the sessions would work , what to expect and really listened. From that very first session, I felt listened to, without judgement, really heard and so safe with this lady , I opened up totally about things that I had told my self I never would. There was never any pressure to talk, and sometimes I cried more than spoke but again Elena gave me the time and space to be able to do this.

Working with Elena has been the best experience I could have ever wished for, she brought me back to me , she acknowledged all my problems and gave me tools and support to help me!
If you are looking for a therapist and are unsure please don’t be , you are in the best, most empathetic hands you could need..

Elena has such a warm welcoming approach it was like talking to an old friend, I began to really look forward to our sessions, it was my me time, and this comes from a person who was so unsure about the whole counselling thing.

Everyone needs an Elena, she really is fantastic at what she does.

It’s hard to find enough words to praise this lady enough, so take the leap of faith and I promise you will not be disappointed. Give her your worries and you will feel lighter, I always did."

-S

"I started my counselling journey with Elena, and I was quite unsure whether it was right for me. So much so, the first session I actually felt sick.

Elena put me at ease, and within a few sessions I was able to feel comfortable to share and lead the discussion.

I worked with for around 16 months and she helped me with a range of personal circumstances, including having a parent on palliative care, and my spouse going through treatment for cancer. We also spent time working through difficulties with an individual in the workplace.

I recently suffered the loss of two close family members and returned to sessions with Elena.

The very first session, we could see how much I was able to draw on what I had learnt with her previously and it made me feel so much better in myself.

I can see so many ways that she has helped me find the answers within myself.

I can honestly say, that the sessions are helping me keep myself in a more positive place and helped to improve my anxiety and find coping mechanisms."
